Guthsville's High Power rifle match is held on our 100 yard range.
During 2008 matches will be held the 2nd Saturday of each month from March through November. See
the Events Calendar page for details and exceptions.
Fifty shots for record and eight sighter shots are fired in four stages. Each stage is
preceded with a three minute preparation period.
The stages are:
- Off Hand (standing) simulating 200 yards fired on the SR-1 target. Competitors get
twelve minutes to fire two optional sighter shots and ten shots for record.
- Rapid fire sitting or kneeling. Following the preparation period the shooters are given
two minutes to fire two optional shots at the sighter target. Then the shooters will
fire ten records shots in sixty seconds from standing to sitting. Simulates 200 yards,
and is fired on the SR-1 target.
- Rapid fire prone. Following the three minute prep period the shooter is given two
minutes to fire two optional sighter shots on the sighter target. Then he shoots ten
record shots from standing to prone in seventy seconds. Simulates 300 yards and is
fired on the SR-21 target.
- Prone slow fire. Following the three minute prep period, the shooter is given a
total of twenty-two minutes to fire two optional sighter shots on the sighter target and
then without further command from the range officer, shoots twenty shots for record, ten
each on two record targets. Simulates 600 yards and is shot on the MR-31 target.
Shooters shoot on one of three relays we run and all shooting is done from one trip to the
line. Targets are scored and repaired by shooters from the other relays.
Competitors need not go forward while their relay is firing. Competitors are expected
to help with at least one relay other than the one they are shooting on.
Rifles must be centerfire and not larger than .30 caliber. Must have iron micometer
adjustable sights, no scopes, and be able to load a magazine containing either five or eight
rounds. Spotting scopes and a shooting mat are important to have but not required.
