Ya hooo! Welcome to the home of "The Dakota Badlanders" a Single Action Shooting Society
(S.A.S.S.) affiliated Cowboy Action Shooting club.
What is The Single Action Shooting Society (S.A.S.S.)
This is an international organization created to preserve and promote the fast growing sport
of Cowboy Action Shooting. SASS endorses regional matches conducted by affiliated clubs and
annually produces END OF TRAIL, the World Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting & Wild West
Jubilee. There are SASS affiliated clubs in all 50 states, Canada, a few European countries
and Australia. This is indeed a very popular sport and we are proud to be a part of it.
What is Cowboy Action Shooting?
Cowboy Action Shooting is a multifaceted shooting sport in which contestants compete with
firearms typical of those used in the taming of the Old West: single action revolvers, lever
action rifles, and side by side double barreled, or pre 1899 pump, or lever action
shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, "Old West"
style. Contestants will usually shoot all 4 guns ( 2 revolvers - lever action rifle - shotgun
) in 5 or 6 stages (courses of fire) in which they engage reactive or stationary steel
targets. Scoring is based on speed and accuracy.
The truly unique aspect of Cowboy Action Shooting is the requirement placed on authentic
period or Hollywood western dress. Each participant is required to adopt a shooting alias
appropriate to a character or profession of the late 19th century, or a Hollywood western
star, and develop a costume accordingly. Most, if not all clubs, have a minimum dress
requirement. Denim jeans, long sleeve cotton work shirt, cowboy hat and leather shoes or
boots.
If you would like to see what this Cowboy Action Shooting game is all about, come to any
of our monthly matches and check it out for yourself. Eye and ear protection is required.
